LANSING, Mich.— Gov. Snyder addressed Michigan’s recovery in his State of the State address and Rep. Margaret O’Brien and Sen. Tonya Schuitmaker issued the following statements after his speech about plans for Michigan this year:

“Michigan suffered one of the worst recessions and is now leading the Great Lakes states in recovery,” said O’Brien, R-Portage. “I am so pleased Governor Snyder mentioned my bipartisan work on education issues. I have been privileged to work with education experts and colleagues on both sides of the aisle to find solutions that put kids first.”

Schuitmaker, R-Lawton, said, “Governor Snyder’s State of the State address painted a clear picture both of our accomplishments thus far and what he hopes for in 2014. The governor presented a bold agenda, and I look forward to working with him on accomplishing our mutual goals.

“While Michigan has seen an impressive rebound, there is a lot more work to be done.”

“The focus for the 2014 legislative session remains largely the same. We will maintain our commitment to cut wasteful government spending and run Michigan as efficiently as possible. Michigan taxpayers have worked hard for their money and we should be working hard to ensure they keep it.”

O’Brien said, “Michigan is improving but our work is more important now than ever. I brought common sense solutions to Lansing from our community that turned our state around. We must continue to be bold and fight for a brighter future for our kids.”
