Outdoor recreation is a large part of many Michiganders’ lives, and legislation I introduced would allow those who pass to choose a state park as their final resting place.
Senate Bill 1061 would create a memorial program to allow families choosing cremation a way to honor the deceased’s desire for their final resting place to be in the state park that meant the most to them in life, while also giving back to the state park they loved through volunteerism or financial contribution.
Loved ones of the deceased would be able to spread their ashes in the park, as well as help preserve our state’s natural beauty by volunteering with the state park under the memorial program. Those who choose to make financial contributions can choose where to direct their support, such as for trail maintenance, tree replacement, or playgrounds.
SB 1061 has been referred to the Senate Committee on Outdoor Recreation and Tourism for further consideration.
