LANSING, Mich.—On Thursday night, Sen. Tonya Schuitmaker, R-Lawton, issued the statement below following Gov. Rick Snyder’s fourth State of the State address at the Capitol in Lansing.

“Governor Snyder's State of the State address painted a clear picture both of our accomplishments thus far and what he hopes for in 2014. The Governor presented a bold agenda and I look forward to working with him on accomplishing our mutual goals.
“Reinventing Michigan has been a top priority for the Legislature and tonight's speech highlighted some of the progress that has been made. Once again, Michigan’s budget was balanced and passed with time to spare, turning a once- $1.5 billion budget deficit into a $900 million surplus. We are also one of the top states for job growth nationwide.

“While Michigan has seen an impressive rebound, there is a lot more work to be done. The focus for the 2014 legislative session remains largely the same. We will maintain our commitment to cut wasteful government spending and run Michigan as efficiently as possible. Michigan taxpayers have worked hard for their money and we should be working hard to ensure they keep it.”
