Michigan drivers pay 136 percent more than the national average for auto insurance. This is in part due to the unique unlimited lifetime personal injury protection and one of the highest uninsured driver rates in the country.
While it is my priority to reduce rates and make insurance more affordable for Michigan families, it is also important to ensure that we will be protecting those involved in catastrophic accidents.
Senate Bills 248 and 249 are aimed at reducing rates by creating a transparent claims association and preventing insurance fraud. The legislation was passed by the Senate on April 16, 2015 and awaits a vote on the House floor.
