Following recent videos that describe a heartbreaking practice among some facilities where elective abortions take place, the Michigan departments of Health and Human Services and Licensing and Regulatory Affairs launched a formal investigation into Planned Parenthood affiliates across the state to determine if they have participated in the sale and distribution of babies’ body parts.
Senate Bills 564 and 565, introduced by Senator Phil Pavlov (R – St. Clair Township), would make it illegal to financially benefit in any way from the sale or distribution of a fetus or any fetal tissue obtained from an elective abortion procedure. This legislation establishes a five year maximum prison sentence for violators.
Life, even when unexpected, deserves the utmost protection and respect. I am committed to ensuring that this tragic, horrific practice does not happen in our communities.
Senate Bills 564 and 565 are currently under consideration in the Senate Oversight Committee, on which I serve. I look forward to supporting this important legislation.
