LANSING, Mich.— Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) officials and legislators from across Michigan, including Sens. Tonya Schuitmaker and Rick Jones, announced a series of road repair projects throughout the state Thursday
Sen. Jones, R-Grand Ledge, and Sen. Schuitmaker, R-Lawton, announced two projects in Allegan County.
“This is fantastic news and a great first step toward improving our roads,” said Jones. “The people of Michigan want and deserve better roads. There is still much more work to be done to address all of our infrastructure needs in Michigan, but this is an important part of that process.”
“Three years of sound budget decisions and living within our means has made it possible to direct existing resources toward our roads,” said Schuitmaker. “Instead of seeking new revenue, we were able to tighten our belts and fund priority projects throughout the state.”
The projects are being funded by grants from MDOT. Two Allegan County projects will be receiving grants.
One will be used to replace the 112th Street Bridge east of 20th Street near Otsego. The other will make repairs to a stretch of 142nd Ave. between Division and Kalamazoo streets in Leighton Township.
“I would like to thank everyone at MDOT,” Schuitmaker said. “I look forward to seeing the projects completed, and will work hard to continue to improve infrastructure in Michigan.”
