LANSING — Senator-elect Tonya Schuitmaker, R-Antwerp Township, will chair a key Appropriations subcommittee and sit on several more important panels during her first term, beginning Jan. 1, 2011.
“It is a privilege to chair this vital subcommittee,” Schuitmaker said. “Higher education remains one of the most important components to turning Michigan’s economy around and getting our state back on track. We need to ensure that our young people have the education and resources necessary for the jobs of the future.”
Schuitmaker also has been tapped by Senate Majority Leader-elect Randy Richardville to be vice chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, as well as serve as vice chair on the Senate Appropriations subcommittees on Community Colleges and Judiciary.
“I look forward to hitting the ground running and working on the critical issues facing our state,” Schuitmaker said. “Michigan is a fantastic place to call home and I will work tirelessly to represent residents of the 20th Senate District and do what is best for the entire state.”
